Like most of the posters here I dont understand Italian and therefor i am quite at a lost when i try to figure out what this PVTN is and why i cant play any quake2 anymore on NGI's servers.
Would someone be so kind to explain me what PVTN is and how I can connect to the Quake2 NIQ server?
I would really appreciate a decent explanation for why international players are locked out from NGI now.

It's not simple to explain it. But,in a few words it is the following:
PVTN is Private Networking, then Private gaming.
It follows that You have to pay (10 €) to gain the possibility to play on NGI's servers. But I don't know how it is possible to pay (form isn't online).
There will be some free servers too, but the services On PVTN are efficiently supported.
Conclusion:
You pay = You'll playing on best servers
You don't do it = You'll still playing on few old servers.

NGI is now reinstalling all the servers... after have finished we'll create an english guide
Now is opened (for italians) the NGI Private Network public beta.
If you want to paretecipate just do the following:
- go to http://pn.ngi.it
- username: testpn
- password: ngirulez
- after being authenticated you can get into a [PVTN] server
